Preparing for a competition, or want to test your dog on a competition venue’s odour strength?
All “Competition Strength” swabs are half cut
15cc vials – all white swabs
1oz jars – your choice of all white swabs or 1/2 white and 1/2 black (20 of each)
“Competition Strength” swabs are prepared using the chosen organization’s method.
AKC: 2 drops of oil on each swab
CKC/CPE/SDDA/UKC: 1 drop of oil on each swab
C-WAGS/NACSW/PSD/USCSS: “cooking/absorption” method
**As these swabs are prepared once order is placed, lead time for shipping may be longer than other items.**
Our regular scented swabs can be used to train for all organizations.
Teams should be training with a varied amount of target odour so your dog gets experience with different strengths. Target odour strength is difficult to exactly reproduce each time and there are varying factors, including the batch of essential oil used.
There are many ways to vary the strength of hides, but we typically use the following methods in our training:
mixing new and old swabs
varying the number swabs used in the hide vessel
